It was my dogs first time on a 2 day sail... she held it the whole time.. I put down the absorbable pads and encouraged her to go but no luck.. what do you guys do to train your dog to deal.. she didnt seem to be in discomfort and i suppose she would have gone eventually but what do you all do about keeping your dog comfortable on a boat trip. I hate to leave her behind when we go out for an extended time.

thanks

As long as people use life jacket for their dogs and cats it is a wonderful experience. I like the idea about grass patches,
That is no problem for dogs. We have lived aboard for 5 years with 2 dogs. We did crossings that took about 3 days and the dogs finally go on the pads. We had a vet tell us one time that they are capable of holding it for 72 hours. That would be tough, but one of our dogs has held it that long. It was amazing. As for training. LOL. We have tried everything. Since the dogs started out as crate trained in a house, they will refuse to go anywhere on the boat. My dog would sniff the grass and then move on. Tried everything we could think of. Just have to walk ours twice a day, but they realy enjoy and do their business when they are supposed to.
LoL thanks for the reassurance..
